Does Location Even Matter Anymore in Astrology?
Short answer: your birth location matters enormously. Your current location, almost not at all.
Vedic astrology is built on where the planets were at the exact moment and place you were born — that’s fixed, permanent data, encoded in your Kundli. Whether you’re consulting from a flat in Sushant Lok, a WeWork in Indiranagar, or an apartment in Andheri doesn’t change the maths of your chart one bit. What matters is that the astrologer reading it has your correct birth date, time, and place — and enough experience to interpret it properly.
This is why I run a large part of my practice as online astrology consultations for clients across Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bangalore, and smaller cities, in addition to in-person sessions from my base near Gurgaon. I’ve written more on this in a longer piece on why Gurgaon’s professionals specifically seek out astrology consultants if you want the deeper context on how city life shapes the questions people bring in.
That said, “near me” searches do serve one real purpose — local trust signals. People want to know an astrologer has a genuine, verifiable presence in or serving their city, not just a website with a city name stuffed into it. That’s a fair thing to check for. Here’s how.
How to Choose the Right Astrology Expert — A Practical Checklist
I’ve sat on the other side of this table for 25 years and 10,000+ consultations. Here is, honestly, what separates the right astrology expert from someone running a well-marketed guessing game.
1. They ask for your exact birth time and place before saying anything
If someone gives you a reading based only on your date of birth, that’s Sun-sign astrology — the newspaper-horoscope kind. It’s entertainment, not diagnosis. Real Kundali analysis needs your birth time accurate to within 15–30 minutes, because the Ascendant (Lagna) shifts roughly every two hours and changes the entire chart.
2. They can explain why, not just what
Ask any astrologer you’re considering: “Why do you say that?” A genuine practitioner will point to a specific house, planet, or Dasha (planetary period) driving the reading. If the answer is vague — “the stars are showing me” — walk away.
3. Their remedies are proportionate
Mantras, specific charitable acts, gemstone guidance, and simple rituals are standard, low-cost Vedic tools. If you’re being pushed toward lakhs of rupees in “special pujas” to remove a curse only they can see, that’s a red flag, not a remedy.
4. They’ll tell you what you don’t want to hear
This is the one people underrate most. If an astrologer only ever tells you good news, they’re reading your mood, not your chart. A real career astrology or marriage astrology session sometimes means being told to wait, or that a decision isn’t well-timed yet.
5. Reviews and history exist outside their own website
Check Google reviews, ask for client references, and see if they’ve been consulted consistently over years — not just a page built last month. You can see genuine client reviews here as one example of what that verification should look like.
6. They’re upfront about what astrology can’t do
No credible astrologer replaces your doctor, your lawyer, or your financial advisor. Astrology is a timing and pattern-recognition layer — used alongside professional advice, never instead of it. Anyone claiming otherwise is overselling.
